The Democratic party has been in crisis since 2010. That is when they started to see massive losses across national and state races.
To be sure it was a bloodbath, electorally, for the left, one they have not recovered from. Their recent gains in the House and at the state level are still not enough to undo years of losing election after election.
So they are looking for answers and all they are getting is a bunch of low-rent solutions by way of showboating politicians rushing to Iowa.
With all the same message – Trump is a monster and we are slightly less bad monsters so vote for us. Not a winning message, nor an inspiring one.
The Dems have a tough choice – run a progressive and lose to Trump or run a centrist and lose to Trump.
Hawaii Democratic Sen. Mazie Hirono thinks she has the answer to why the left keeps losing. Speaking at the Bend To Justice leadership conference on Tuesday, she actually said the that Democrats lose because they cannot connect with voters because they are too smart.
“I wish I had the answer to that because one of the things that we, Democrats, have a really hard time is connecting to people’s hearts instead of [to their heads].
We’re really good at shoving out all the information that touch people here [pointing to her head] but not here [pointing to her heart],” Hirono said.
“I’ve been saying it at all of our Senate Democratic retreats, that we need to speak to the heart not in a manipulative way, not in a way that brings forth everybody’s fears and resentments but truly to speak to the hearts so that people know that we’re actually on their side,” she continued.
“But we have a really hard time doing that and one of the reasons it was told to me at one of our retreats was that we Democrats know so much, that is true. And we have kind of have to tell everyone how smart we are and so we have a tendency to be very left brain.”
