Kevin McCarthy Puts Liz Cheney On Notice, Warns Her To Preserve All Records Of Probe: “It is imperative that all information collected be preserved not just for institutional prerogatives but for transparency to the American people”

Republican House Minority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy put outgoing GOP Rep Liz Cheney on notice telling her and the Jan 6 Committee to ‘preserve all records and transcripts’ and promised to investigate the special committee probing the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

McCarthy wrote a letter to the committee that said: “You’ve spent a year and a half and millions of taxpayers’ dollars conducting this investigation.

It is imperative that all information collected be preserved not just for institutional prerogatives but for transparency to the American people. The American people have a right to know that the allegations you have made are supported by the facts.

“The official Congressional Records do not belong to you or any member, but to the American people, and they are owed all of the information you gathered — not merely the information that comports with your political agenda,” he wrote.

He wanted all records preserved because recent media reports claimed the committee, at Liz Cheney’s urging, will focus only on Trump and not any security failures.

McCarthy wrote that “some reports suggest that entire swaths of findings will be left out of the Committee’s final report.”

Democrat Rep. Bennie Thompson, who chairs the committee with Cheney said:

“McCarthy had a chance to have members on the committee, he had a chance to come and testify before the committee, so, I think the horse has left the barn.”
