White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany ripped D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser over the new DCFACES (District of Columbia Facilities and Commemorative Expressions) group she is backing that suggested it is time to “remove, relocate, or contextualize” the Washington Monument and Jefferson Memorial, and others.
“By publishing a plan that recommends potentially removing the Washington Monument, Christopher Columbus Statue, Andrew Jackson Statue, and Jefferson Memorial—among many other ludicrous recommendations—the radically liberal mayor of Washington, D.C., is repeating the same left-wing narrative used to incite dangerous riots: demolishing our history and destroying our great heritage,” McEnany said.
“President Donald J. Trump believes these places should be preserved, not torn down; respected, not hated; and passed on for generations to come,” she added.
“As long as President Trump is in the White House, the mayor’s irresponsible recommendations will go absolutely nowhere, and as the mayor of our Nation’s capital city—a city that belongs to the American people—she ought to be ashamed for even suggesting them for consideration,” she said.
Lindsey Graham was not happy either: “Just when you thought it couldn’t get crazier….it did.”
“The idea of DC renaming monuments to our Founding Fathers — who created the greatest country on Earth — is beyond offensive. Yet another reason DC should never be a state!”
From Fox News:
A committee reporting to Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser has come up with a list of dozens of historical monuments, schools, parks, government buildings and other structures that it recommends making changes to because of the historical namesakes’ connection to slavery or racism — even the Washington Monument and Jefferson Memorial.
Among the historical figures named on the list are former presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Monroe, Andrew Jackson, William Henry Harrison, John Tyler, Zachary Taylor and Woodrow Wilson. The list also includes Founding Fathers Benjamin Franklin and George Mason, inventor Alexander Graham Bell and composer of the national anthem Francis Scott Key.
Jefferson Field, named for Thomas Jefferson, is among assets the committee recommends “using existing District government processes” to rename. So is Franklin School, named for Benjamin Franklin.
It recommends the Federal government “remove, relocate, or contextualize” several very famous tourist attractions, including the Washington Monument, the Jefferson Memorial and the Benjamin Franklin Statue.
Just when you thought it couldn’t get crazier….it did.
