Hollywood legend fired back at embattled actor Alec Baldwin over a movie role the two wanted. Alec is waiting to stand trial in the Rust shooting while Ford is now starring in the hit Paramount show 1923.
After Baldwin starred in The Hunt For Red October in 1990 as Jack Ryan, one of Tom Clancy’s most iconic characters, he thought he was a lock to star in the sequel, the Patriot Games.
But Harrison swooped in and took the plum role in the movie enraging Alec who wrote about the disappointment in his book. A bitter Baldwin said:
“Usually, I have given a half truth as an answer, something about scheduling conflicts and so forth. But the truth is the studio cut my throat.
“Director John McTiernan further told me that Paramount owed the actor [Ford] a large sum of money for a greenlit film that fell apart prior to this, and pushing me aside would help to alleviate that debt and put someone with much greater strength at the box office than mine in the role.”
“I sat there mildly stunned because not only was I in an active negotiation with Paramount but for them to negotiate simultaneously with another actor was against the law.”
“Ford, in person, is a little man, short, scrawny, and wiry, whose soft voice sounds as if it’s coming from behind a door.”
According to Alec, Ford was asked at the time by McTiernan if he knew he was taking Baldwin’s role.
Ford didn’t miss a beat and fired back saying: “F*ck him.”
Harrison Ford got the last laugh and ended up playing the beloved Tom Clancy character not only in Patriot Games but also in Clear And Present Danger.
Baldwin never played Jack Ryan again.
